Biography:
Misi Misi’s creative journey began with satirical digital comics drawn in Photoshop that offered humorous takes on everyday life. Over time, this evolved into experimentation across multiple mediums, including video, installations, and airbrushed painting. Alongside this shift, music emerged as another creative outlet, which she describes as a way to step away from the visual process and reset creatively.
Born in Valencia and now based in Madrid, Misi studied painting as a child and spent ten years in classical music training at the conservatory, where she learned piano and flute. She later enrolled in biotechnology and then journalism, though she did not pursue either field professionally. Instead, she spent four years writing comedy scripts for television while also working as a cartoon illustrator. Today, she focuses full time on her personal art and music practice.
Art making has always been an emotional tool for her. “Creating has always been an escape,” she says. “It’s something I need to process certain worries in my life or about the world in general.” This emotional instinct is now paired with a sharp observational interest in internet behavior, particularly the strange, the cringeworthy, and the exaggerated nature of online content culture. From Shein product photos to Amazon reviews, digital absurdity often becomes her source material.
Artistic Practice:
Misi works primarily with an airbrush, painting on canvas, paper, and clothing. She was drawn to the tool for the way it replicates a digital texture, but in a tactile, physical medium. “Once you get the hang of it, after clogging it many times and breaking several needles—it’s very enjoyable,” she says. Compared to oils, which she openly dislikes, airbrush offers immediacy and control.
Her visual language is “cute, naïve, and sarcastic,” often referencing internet culture, reality TV, and American media. Shows like My Strange Addiction, Wife Swap, and even monster truck events become cultural fuel for her painting and sound. She frequently screenshots moments from these programs to later reinterpret as visual compositions. Her dream is to travel to the U.S. again and experience the cultural chaos firsthand.
Recurring inspiration comes from eccentric personalities online, people whose behavior defies logic, taste, or structure. “They surprise and inspire me a lot,” she says. Her list of artistic influences spans disciplines: Miranda July and Todd Solondz in film, artists like Ema Gaspar, Teresa Segovia, Taewon Ahn, and Helena Minginowicz, and musicians including Mura Masa, Shygirl, Yaeji, and YULLOLA. She also credits Radio Noia, a podcast by Mar Vallverdú, as a constant spark for new concepts.
