A deeper look at the evolution of the 2100 and G SHOCK’s design legacy
G-SHOCK returns with a new take on its most talked about shape. This time, the brand works with Coca-Cola to mark 140 years. However, instead of bold red, the watch leans into material and history.
A MATERIAL APPROACH TO DESIGN
The GA 2100CC 3A is built around the idea of the original Coca Cola glass bottle. Because of that, the case and bezel use translucent green bio based resin. The color directly reflects vintage bottles, which gives the watch a softer and more layered look.
In addition, the strap uses the same material. This keeps the design consistent from end to end. At the same time, the Carbon Core Guard structure keeps it light and strong. The watch weighs just over 50 grams, yet it still offers shock resistance and 200 meter water resistance.
DIAL DETAILS THAT BUILD THE STORY
The dial adds more depth. First, the surface uses a brown texture that reflects carbonation. Then, rose gold markers cut through the dial, which improves contrast and readability.
At the nine o’clock position, a small bottle graphic replaces the usual day display. This detail connects back to the theme without taking over the design. Similarly, the band loop carries a fluted pattern inspired by the bottle shape. On the back, the case is finished with a bottle cap engraving.
Finally, the watch includes dual LED lighting and a three year battery. These features keep it aligned with G SHOCK’s focus on function.
HOW THE 2100 CHANGED EVERYTHING
To understand this release, you have to look at the GA 2100 itself. When it launched in 2019, it felt simple at first. However, the slim case and octagonal bezel quickly stood out.
Soon after, comparisons to the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak began to spread. As a result, the watch picked up the nickname CasiOak. That moment pushed the model into a new space between streetwear and watch culture.
Because of this, the 2100 became one of the most modified watches on the market. In response, G SHOCK expanded the line with metal and full metal versions. This move helped bridge the gap between accessible design and luxury inspired form.
THE FOUNDATION OF G SHOCK
The story starts earlier. G-SHOCK began in 1983, led by Kikuo Ibe. After breaking a watch given to him by his father, he set out to create one that would not fail.
As a result, the first G SHOCK was built around the Triple 10 idea. It could survive a 10 meter drop, handle 10 bar water pressure, and run for 10 years on one battery. This approach changed how people viewed watches.
Over time, the brand moved beyond function. It became part of skate, military, and streetwear culture. Therefore, G SHOCK grew into both a tool and a cultural object.
