THE LIFE OF PAYUSU NJIE

Before the music, the recognition, and the growing industry attention, Pz’ was a college student working in luxury retail in Atlanta. Four years later, he would be walking for Louis Vuitton, working with Hedi Slimane, and recording alongside Young Thug. At just 23, Pz’ is quickly becoming one of the most exciting young artists in the world, with an influence that stretches far beyond music.

Born Payusu Njie, Pz’ grew up in Atlanta with Gambian and Senegalese roots. His mother immigrated from Gambia to the United States as a teenager and had previously worked as a model. Raised around a close West African community, Njie grew up surrounded by family, music, and culture. After high school, he attended Georgia State University while working in luxury retail in Buckhead. In 2022, a short trip to New York to visit family led to an unexpected modeling opportunity. By 2023, he had signed with Wilhelmina Models, beginning a career that would take him across some of fashion’s biggest stages.

His early work with Mowalola led to further opportunities, including being photographed by Hedi Slimane and eventually walking for Louis Vuitton under Pharrell Williams. While most rappers enter the fashion industry after finding success in music, Pz’ was already building relationships with some of its most influential figures before establishing himself as a recording artist.

His transition into music introduced an entirely different side of his creativity. Through his involvement with ØWAY, the collective founded by Tezzus and diamond*, Pz’ became one of the standout names in a new wave of underground rap. His breakout record HEDIS BUSSIN’ caught the attention of Playboi Carti, while ØWAY’s viral cypher helped introduce him to a much larger audience. His 2026 project No Turning Back further established his sound, combining effortless delivery, atmospheric production, and influences from his African heritage.

The momentum continued with his appearance alongside Young Thug on Slime Language 3, international touring opportunities, and an announced collaboration with Don Toliver. His growing profile has also raised questions about a potential major-label bidding war, although competing offers have yet to be publicly confirmed.

What makes Pz’ particularly exciting is that his appeal extends beyond the traditional boundaries of a recording artist. He has already established credibility in high fashion, developed a recognizable sound, and built relationships across an international creative community. Few emerging artists have arrived with this level of cultural presence before their first major commercial breakthrough.

Pz’ is no longer simply an underground artist with potential. He’s becoming one of the faces of a new generation, one where music, fashion, and culture exist together. The foundation is already there, the attention is growing, and his biggest moments may still be ahead of him.
